Federated model

Federated, not centralised

Europe's answer to Big Tech is not a new giant, but a connected network. Working together through shared rules — while you retain control of your own data and systems.

Two models, one choice

Model A

The Silicon Valley model

A handful of enormous, centralised players. Data and compute power concentrate around a few hyperscalers. The result: vendor lock-in, dependency, and little real choice.

Model B — SAIG

The federated model

An ecosystem of many European providers, each managing their own infrastructure, but collaborating through open standards. Not a new monopolist — a network of equal nodes.

How federation works in practice

🌐

A connected network

Instead of building one new European hyperscaler, we link existing national infrastructures together into a federated network. Think of initiatives like EURO-3C, which connects more than 70 organisations.

🔒

Data stays at the source

Data is not stored centrally, but remains with its owner. Only the necessary insights are shared securely, according to agreed standards.

⚖️

Collaboration based on rules

Shared governance: working together through shared oversight, transparency and joint standards. Interoperability is central — not centralisation.

Why this matters for European sovereignty

of their own home market is in the hands of EU cloud providers. A federated approach must turn this around.

0

vendor lock-in. Federation breaks the dependency on a handful of major players and gives governments and businesses real choice.

0

European values. Privacy, security and transparency safeguarded according to European standards.

A growing European ecosystem

G-X

Gaia-X

A federated, transparent data ecosystem as a European alternative.

E3C

EURO-3C

A federated cloud and AI infrastructure connecting more than 70 organisations.

BM

BundesMessenger

A German government app on the federated Matrix protocol, with all data on its own servers.

SAIG's position

Sovereign AI-Grid as a federated node

SAIG is not a closed platform, but a federated node in this European network. Our CCM compute modules run on our own sovereign infrastructure and connect through open standards. Steward ownership guarantees that profit and control remain in service of the mission — not shareholder value. This is how we contribute to the EuroHPC AI Gigafactories programme (Article 12b) without creating a new dependency.
